Representatives from Nordic Union of Hotel, Restaurant, Catering and Tourism and its member organizations will gather during the 4-5th of October. The congress called “Nordisk Forum” (Nordic Forum) will take place in Malmö, Southern Sweden.

Here, they will discuss various important issues concerning the sector. The goal is to improve the working conditions in the sector. Also, they want to strengthen the influence of the member organizations at the international level.

The most important topic for the congress is tourism. After the official opening of the congress, important voices and experts on the field have been invited to Malmö. They will discuss “Tourism in the Nordic region: The industry of the future, faced with many challenges” on a conference hosted by the NU HRCT.

The rapidly growing sector unfortunately has poor reputation. The bad reputation is caused by precarious employment conditions. At the same time, the Nordic region has great potential to develop further as a tourist destination. However, in the global perspective, it faces fierce competition.

Challenges and victories

Wednesday until noon is dedicated to the member organizations. They get the chance to present their challenges and victories.

For instance, the Finnish union PAM will tell the delegates how the new competitiveness agreement in Finland have influenced workers’ rights. The Danish 3F branch within private sector, hotels and restaurants will share ideas from their organizing work. The Norwegian Fellesforbundet will present their experiences from recent difficult strikes and bargains. Also, Icelandic and Swedish unions will share important ideas and experiences.

Nordisk Forum is NU HRCT’s highest decision-making body organized every four years. It is an important venue for the member organizations to share their experiences, evaluate their work and define the priorities for NU HRCT for the coming years. Nordisk Forum will also elect a new governing board and set guidelines for the future work of the secretariat.
